Justin + Shelby // Marengo, OH Wedding & Otterbein University First Look

It’s a new year and I am determined to get back to blogging for you guys. I have a huge list of sessions that I cannot wait to share, along with some more personal adventures- like buying our first house! So without further ado, let’s jump back 8 months (woah) and dive into Justin and Shelby’s wedding day!

“Justin and I met while working at the Abercrombie & Fitch Home Office. We were both working overnight as we were in class during the day. It was December 2011 when I started that job, and when we met. I had just turned 19, and he 21. We became close friends over the following years, and finally started dating in 2013. We decided to wear white Chuck Taylor’s on our wedding day because, they were basically a staple of working at A&F during the time we worked there. It was a token of where our relationship started, so it was extra special to both of us. Currently, mine remain caked in mud from the rain. Justin thought it would be more meaningful if we did not wash them, so they look the exact same as they did on our wedding day. Somehow, mine were in worse shape than his.”

This was the most weather accurate Spring wedding I think we have had thus far. It rained, it poured, and the sun threw heat all over the place within a matter of hours. These love birds shared their first look surrounded by lush greens and cutesy brick buildings at Justin’s Alma Mater, Otterbein University in Westerville before heading out to their ceremony and reception in Marengo.

Almost immediately following the ceremony the storms rolled in as everyone made their way to the tent. Guest tables were adorned with white linens and gorgeous vases packed full of peonies, roses, greenery, and an array of other pinky-hued florals. Vintage saucers and crystal candy dishes lined the head table where the new Mr. & Mrs., along with their closest friends, enjoyed a delicious meal provided by Nicole’s Catering.

By some miracle, the hurricane that was happening outside of the tent cleared up as soon as the final speech was completed. It was as if mother nature knew it was time to party! The rest of the night went on without a drop of rain and whole lot of celebrating…

Advice from the new Mr + Mrs…
Soak in the time you have with each other, both planning your big day and being engaged!  You are planning for the start of your lives together, and the wedding day will be the most special to only you and your future spouse.  To add to that, time flies so quick – your engagement will be through before you know it!  Don’t settle for anything less than what you want for your big day, and at the same time, don’t overthink the elements, either.  It ends up being a magical day whether you have a fancy venue and delicate details, or you go to the courthouse with your future husband or wife.  If there are things you want to do specifically on your big day, don’t be afraid to write them down at any time you think of them.  Sometimes I looked back and remembered I wanted to do something but completely forgot.  Of course, the forgotten details aren’t crucial – but it adds to the uniqueness of YOUR day.
