I love a solid outdoor engagement session as much as the next photographer, but the vulnerability that comes with an in-home engagement session will always have me on the edge of my seat. Alexa and her fiance had been living out the dream together in their first home with their puppy, Moose, when they got engaged. I should also mention that Alexa emailed me the day AFTER Eric proposed! She knew exactly what she needed from me the moment she inquired about her moody engagement session.
Alexa and Eric lit each other’s fire fiercely and they wanted to document it as it was. It only made sense to me, at that point, that we do their session in their home.
Alexa & Eric’s moody engagement session
When the day arrived, the forecast really helped set the stage for their moody engagement. The crowded skies provided Alexa & Eric’s home with the softest light and did not deter the deep shadows. There was a candle on the coffee table that filled the room with the sweetest aroma. Moose peeked through the window as Alexa and Eric snuggled up on the couch ready to start documenting.
The energy shifted each time we moved throughout the house. The couch held the intimacy, the kitchen held the dancing and laughter, and the study held the calm. They ran as fast as they could through each room on the first floor while Moose chased after them. Usher’s “You’ve got it bad” played quietly in the background while Eric and Alexa curled up on the kitchen floor taking in every second for what it was.
Towards the end of our time together, we took a stroll to a small park behind their house and got caught in the rain. To me, their session feels like being pulled into a warm hug.
