As a wedding photographer, it’s easy to fall into a “checklist” routine. My goal in 2022 was to break out of that as much as I could. Enter, Alexa and Eric’s Retreat 21 wedding. Upon reaching out to me, Alexa was clear with her style and how she wanted this time of her life documented. Focusing solely on chemistry and connection instead of the technical aspects can be so refreshing!
Alexa’s wedding day vision was intimate and moody, much like her engagement session with Eric. The engagement session took place in their home on a rainy afternoon. Eric and Alexa snuggled up on the couch, chased their dog around the house, and danced in the kitchen after an anticlimactic bottle popping of champagne. We laughed and went with the flow, nothing could prevent them from enjoying their time together. Their chemistry is unrivaled!
After documenting these two for their engagement session, I was intrigued to see how their wedding day would come together. Would it be any different with hundreds of people around? Could their chemistry shine through? How would their vibe mesh with Retreat 21?

Setting the mood
Alexa and Eric shared their vision successfully with Aisle & Co wedding coordinator, Hannah. Each guest table was adorned with a variety of greenery, black pillar candles, and gold accents. Due to inclement weather, the bride and groom opted for an indoor California-style ceremony. This ended up playing into the intimate vibe they’d envisioned quite well.
One of the coolest aspects of having a Retreat 21 wedding is watching the space transform throughout the day. The space is grand, any way you look at it. To go on a virtual tour of Retreat 21 check out their website here!
Getting married at Retreat 21
With a wedding party of 20 people including 7 bridesmaids and 11 groomsmen, having a dedicated getting-ready space was a necessity. Retreat 21 provided both a large bridal suite and a stylish loft for Alexa & Eric. The ladies lounged in their matching pajamas while sipping mimosas, and the boys snacked on Jimmy John’s and mingled their way across the property.
After a relaxing morning, Alexa and Eric held a beautiful ceremony, followed by a delicious dinner and lively party. Throughout the day they braved the November chill to snag some photos on the property and never turned down the opportunity to get creative. Looking back at their portraits I think it’s safe to say that they successfully pulled off their moody Retreat 21 wedding.
